Leanne Watt

Growing up in the lower Blue Mountains, Leanne’s early interest in art was cultivated by her father Derek, an artist himself. She responded warmly to unconventional methods of creation, and was shaping copper, moulding clay, sculpture and painting from age 10.

Still at school, she excelled in Visual Arts with her HSC major work. Leanne’s artistic career began in 1992 with First Price in the “Young Artist” Award of Recognition.

Enticed by its fluid unpredictable properties, Leanne found herself attracted to watercolour as her preferred medium, and continued further study at The Mitchell School of Creative Arts, Charles Sturt University, Bathurst. On completion of a Small Business Course, Leanne opened her own gallery in Millthorpe in country NSW, operating for a number of years.

Over the last 10 years, Leanne has lived from the coast to the country and continues to find never-ending joy working with native wildlife and marine landscape. She is widely recognised in the field of creative watercolour and her work is currently displayed in regional galleries and in private collections both her and overseas.

Currently residing in Dubbo NSW, the birth of her first child in 2005 has inspired a new collection of exhibition works.
