Kit Tanner
Several years ago Kit Tanner took the sea change option and left Sydney to settle in the Shoalhaven.
His interest in traditional tools and love of timber led him to dabble in wood making activities. During this time Kit focused on the aesthetic of combining the natural beauty of wood and sculptured free form boxes.
He commences sculpting the boxes by studying the wood, the shape and grain suggesting form.
The process itself is demanding and time consuming, each work taking many days, even weeks to complete. Most admirers are intrigued, commonly asking how the shapes are achieved. After sculpting many hours of hand sanding bring out the lustre and beauty of the timber. No varnish is ever used. The fine burning invites hands to caress the flowing lines.
Each box is unique and the “secret drawers”in some add another dimension to these highly collectable organically sculpted forms.
